We are seeking an experienced Traffic MOT Design Engineer to join our team working on the SR400 Express Lanes project. This role will focus on the design and implementation of Traffic Management (MOT) strategies for large-scale infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning and designing traffic control plans, detours, and work zone safety solutions for the SR400 Express Lanes project. The position requires an in-depth understanding of traffic control, safety regulations, and traffic management strategies, as well as experience with complex, high-profile transportation projects.
- Develop, design, and implement Traffic Management (MOT) plans for the SR400 Express Lanes project, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines and standards.
- Collaborate with the design and construction teams to assess traffic impacts and identify safe and efficient solutions for managing traffic flow during the construction and operational phases.
- Perform traffic analysis and simulations to assess the potential impacts of proposed changes to traffic patterns, access points, and work zones.
- Prepare detour plans, lane closure layouts, and other traffic control designs necessary to maintain safety and minimize disruption during construction.
- Ensure all traffic management plans meet safety standards and are compliant with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), AASHTO, and other relevant regulations.
- Coordinate with state and local transportation agencies to ensure all necessary permits and approvals for traffic control and detours are obtained.
- Conduct site visits and field assessments to evaluate traffic conditions and verify that traffic management measures are implemented effectively.
- Develop traffic control cost estimates and resource plans to support project budgets and timelines.
- Provide technical support and guidance to the project team and contractors during the implementation of traffic management plans.
- Stay current with the latest developments in traffic control and management technologies, including Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS), and recommend improvements to the traffic management strategy.
- Lead and participate in safety audits and reviews to ensure that all traffic management designs are safe for both workers and the traveling public.
- Document and report all traffic control designs, plans, and changes, ensuring proper tracking and compliance with project documentation standards.
- Participate in meetings with stakeholders and agencies, providing traffic management input and updates on project progress.
Required Skills and Competencies
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelorβs degree in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional License: Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Georgia preferred. Alternatively, certification in Traffic Control Design (e.g., TCD or ATSSA certification) is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in traffic management or MOT design, with a focus on large infrastructure or transportation projects (express lanes, highways, etc.).
- Strong working knowledge of MUTCD, AASHTO, and other national and local traffic control standards.
- Experience in developing and designing traffic control plans, detour plans, lane closures, and temporary traffic patterns.
- Proficiency in traffic design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or traffic simulation tools.
- Familiarity with Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS) and their integration into traffic management designs.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and resolve complex traffic management challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, regulatory agencies, and contractors.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with traffic simulation software (e.g., SYNCHRO, VISSIM, or similar).
- Project management experience and familiarity with the design-build or design-bid-build project delivery methods.
- Experience with traffic signal design and analysis.
- Knowledge of work zone safety protocols and best practices.
