Repsol Renewables North America (RRNA) is seeking a Senior Accountant as part of the CFO Organization. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for supporting the monthly close process, preparation of journal entries, monthly balance sheet reconciliations, and ad hoc projects to support the US and corporate team. This position will support the ongoing process improvement of accounting functions and putting procedures in place to streamline close. This position will report directly to the Accounting Manager.

Our objective is to advance in the energy transition and reduce the emissions of our operations and products in line with the goals set out by the Paris Agreement. The low-emissions generation business is one of the pillars of our strategy to be a net-zero emissions company by 2050, targeting low-emission generation capacity to reach 9-10GW by 2027 and 20GW by 2030.

In the US, we are currently building a 2.2GW renewable energy generation portfolio, of which approximately 770MW will be operational at the end of 2024 and 2.2GW by the end of 2025. Our US portfolio is expected to grow further to 4GW by 2027 and 10GW by 2030.

The position is based in Downtown Houston with a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform and oversee monthly and annual closing process in collaboration with the external service provider, including posting of journal entries, variance and trending analysis, account reconciliations and IFRS reporting to Repsol parent company
  • Prepare external partnership reporting including US GAAP financial statements and other reporting as requested by the partner
  • Preparation of statutory financial statements
  • Assist with external and internal audits
  • Perform account analysis and research with ad-hoc projects as required
  • Assist with the research and documentation of GAAP and IFRS technical accounting issues
  • Liaise with Asset Management and Planning & Performance Management to ensure proper internal reporting and forecasting
  • Assist with design, implementation and testing of internal controls
  • Accounts Payable – manage proper coding, posting and processing of invoices, ensure timely approval, preparation of urgent payment proposals, manage payment inquiries, monitor approval status, overdue payments
  • Cash management – prepare and submit cashflow forecasts (Capex, Opex, G&A), analysis of cash position and cash needs, daily cash position reporting in internal systems, debt payments, partnership distributions and ad hoc requests
  • Accurately manage intercompany transactions

Qualifications

  • Must be authorized to work in the US for any US employer
  • 2+ years relevant work experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Financial statement audit experience is highly preferred and Big 4 audit experience is a plus
  • Knowledge and experience with financial statements and disclosures is highly preferred
  • CPA or progress towards CPA is a plus
  • IFRS & GAAP experience a plus
  • Advanced knowledge in use of Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge and experience with SAP systems highly preferred
  • Ability to learn new tasks quickly
  • Intellectual curiosity and desire to understand RRNA’s business from a financial perspective, from the individual projects to the company as a whole
  • Deadline driven and ability to plan to ensure smooth close processes
  • Excellent verbal/written communications skills
  • Prior work experience in the renewables sector is a plus
