Responsibilities






Job Purpose

The purpose of the Senior Project Engineer – Green Hydrogen is to support various green hydrogen, ammonia, and other hydrogen derivative projects. The Senior Project Engineer – Green Hydrogen will be key player in the project team and will be responsible for reviewing and coordinating the engineering functions for multiple projects in development or in construction phase.

 

Working closely with Director, Project Engineering as well as other Preconstruction Managers, Construction Managers, and installation and commissioning teams, Senior Project Engineer – Green Hydrogen will coordinate delivery of engineering deliverables, clarifications etc. to various stakeholders with the overall objective of maintaining the project schedule and mitigate the technical risks involved in installation/commissioning/operations of green hydrogen projects by delivering clear and accurate documentation in a timely manner.

 

The Senior Project Engineer – Green Hydrogen will be responsible for the engineering design processes, managing consultants and contractors, providing technical guidance during contractor selection process, performing design reviews to improve performance, safety, and cost of such installations, and providing support during commissioning. The work also involves providing technical guidance to Pre-Construction, and Construction teams. Additional responsibilities include project-specific solutions, organizing and participating in technical and progress review meetings, providing support during pre-FEED studies, FEED studies and EPC execution of various projects in the future.

 

This position is critical to assist Pattern in realizing our mission to Transition the World to Renewable Energy.

 

Key Accountabilities

The key responsibilities will include as a minimum the following:

  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert to provide appropriate engineering support for both pre-construction and construction teams.
  • Interpret project requirements including processes, applications, and deliverables with specific attention to critical documentation such as PFDs, P&IDs, H&M balance, GA drawings, equipment Lists, layout, 3D models, etc.
  • Manage outsourced engineering activities ensuring timeliness and correctness of the deliverables.
  • Lead proper execution of engineering related activities for various green hydrogen, green Ammonia, and other green hydrogen derivative projects.
  • Propose cost competitive execution and operations techniques to create the most cost-effective total project solution for execution of various green hydrogen, green Ammonia, and other green hydrogen derivative projects.
  • Evaluate, and assist in finding resolution to technical issues in projects with the support of other Subject Matter Experts and external consultants.
  • Provide inputs during all design phases including interpretation of standards.
  • Actively participate in key project meetings when required for progress review, design review and other risk assessments such as HAZOP, HAZID, etc.
  • Prepare design specifications as required for various green hydrogen, green Ammonia, and other green hydrogen derivative projects.
  • Support the interface with lender’s independent engineers when necessary to address technical issues throughout design and construction phase.
  • Support Director, Project Engineering by identifying resource requirements for on-going projects and future project pipeline.
  • Support continuous improvement of managing engineering design processes.








Qualifications






Education / Experience / Qualifications Required

Educational Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering is required as a minimum.

Work Experience

The following criteria will be used as a basis for Pattern to select a qualified applicant:

  • Minimum seven to ten years of experience in chemicals or oil and gas industry.
  • Minimum five years of pre-FEED, FEED and EPC experience in major projects in chemicals or oil and gas sector.
  • Experience in evaluating chemicals or oil and gas sector projects through early FEL studies.
  • Well versed with good engineering practices, international codes and standards, and statutory norms related to projects in chemicals or oil and gas sector.
  • Experience in project engineering and working with diverse groups of stakeholders for medium to large scale complex projects.
  • General understanding of work safety procedures, compliance requirements and experience in risk evaluation.
  • Hands on experience in execution and/or operation of Hydrogen, Ammonia, or Methanol facilities preferred.
  • Experience in reputed EPC companies or Plant Operators preferred.
  • Professional registration and membership in technical society preferred.

Additional Qualifications

  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong technical capabilities and a creative, curious, self-driven work ethic.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in carrying out projects and tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work well in and/or lead cross functional teams with little supervision or oversight.
  • Ability to prioritize and resolve engineering related issues across multiple projects under demanding schedule constraints.
  • Ability to optimize value engineering throughout the project from pre-construction to construction stage.
  • Thorough understanding of technical requirements of utility scale renewable energy projects.

Technical Skills

  • Computer skills – MS Office suite. Experience in other engineering related software would be an asset.

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 25% both domestically and internationally. Includes travel to remote project locations as well as to manufacturing facilities.

 

 

The expected starting pay range for this role is $128,000 USD - $173,000 in local currency. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
