ACCIONA Construction USA, part of the SR 400 Peach Partners consortium, have been awarded the contract to design and construct the SR 400 Express Lanes project in Atlanta, Georgia. This $4.6 billion project, awarded by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), is a key public-private partnership aimed at addressing congestion on a major highway in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
The Senior Accountant/Finance Manager will play a critical role in managing the financial operations of a billion-dollar heavy civil construction project. This position involves overseeing financial reporting, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, managing project budgets, and providing financial insights to support effective decision-making. The Senior Accountant will work closely with the project management team, external auditors, and financial stakeholders to maintain the financial integrity of the project. This role will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the financial aspects of the billion-dollar construction project are managed effectively, contributing to the project’s financial success and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. Will report also internally to the Acciona HQ as head of Finance.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports for the project.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as applicable.
- Produce timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including senior management and project financiers.
Project Budgeting and Cost Control:
- Assist in developing and managing the project’s budget, ensuring alignment with overall financial objectives.
- Monitor and control costs, analyzing budget-to-actual variances and providing recommendations for corrective actions.
- Collaborate with project managers to update and refine budget forecasts based on changes in project scope or cost drivers.
General Ledger Management
- Maintain the general ledger by ensuring proper coding of expenditures, monitoring journal entries, and conducting reconciliations.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable, ensuring all invoices, payments, and collections are processed on time and accurately.
- Ensure that all financial transactions are recorded in accordance with the company’s policies and accounting standards.
Cost Allocation and Job Cost Accounting:
- Implement and manage job cost accounting systems to track project-specific expenses, including labor, materials, and equipment.
- Allocate overhead and other indirect costs to the appropriate project cost centers to ensure accurate project profitability analysis.
- Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) reports and ensure that project costs are allocated appropriately.
Cash Flow Management
- Manage the project’s cash flow by monitoring incoming and outgoing payments to ensure liquidity.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts based on project milestones and payment schedules, ensuring sufficient funds are available to meet operational needs.
- Work closely with the finance team to ensure timely billing and collection from clients, as well as timely payments to suppliers and subcontractors.
Compliance and Auditing:
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and external financial regulations.
- Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations as required.
- Ensure that the project complies with local, state, and federal tax regulations, including VAT/GST and withholding taxes.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:
- Work closely with project management, procurement, and engineering teams to ensure financial alignment with project timelines and deliverables.
- Provide regular financial updates and reports to senior leadership and project stakeholders, highlighting key financial risks and opportunities.
- Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and financial institutions as needed.
Financial Analysis and Risk Management:
- Perform financial analyses, such as cost-benefit analysis, margin analysis, and profitability forecasting, to support decision-making processes.
- Identify and assess financial risks related to project execution, including cost overruns, cash flow challenges, and regulatory compliance risks.
- Develop and recommend strategies to mitigate financial risks and enhance the project’s financial performance.
Skills:
- High attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of financial records and compliance with accounting standards.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively with project managers, finance teams, auditors, and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical abilities to assess financial data, perform cost analysis, and identify variances and trends.
- Proficiency in accounting software, such as SAP, or other industry-specific project management tools.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel for financial modeling, data analysis, and reporting.
- Ability to provide insights and recommendations for optimizing financial performance and mitigating risks.
- Ability to lead and mentor junior accounting staff, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in financial reporting and operations.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 10+ years of proven accounting leadership experience, preferably in construction or large-scale projects.
