The Security Systems Technician will be responsible for conducting security risk assessments, designing, installing, and maintaining security systems for the electric utility industry, including substations, buildings, and other facilities.

This role involves working with systems such as intrusion detection, camera systems, and access control management systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements, including NERC’s Cyber Security Standards.

The technician will support the AES Indiana security organization in protecting employee and business information and maintaining vital documentation, logs, and change management systems, with assistance from the AES Clean Energy compliance team.

About the Role:

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in security risk assessment and security system design, installation, and maintenance within the electric utility industry. Familiarity with intrusion detection, camera systems, and access control management systems, along with strong documentation and change management skills, is essential. Knowledge of NERC’s Cyber Security Standards and the ability to collaborate effectively with the AES Indiana security organization

About You:

The ideal candidate will have a combination of the following skills and/or experience:

  • Physical access control systems

  • Video surveillance and management systems

  • IP-based networking concepts

  • Able to safely work from heights exceeding 15 feet.

  • Install, maintain, configure, and troubleshoot physical access control and video management systems, including peripherals (control boards, cameras, cabling, proxy readers, etc.)

  • Conduct routine hardware and software audits of all supported security devices to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, procedures, and requirements.

  • Experience handling concurrent projects/vendors.

  • Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance on security equipment and software.

  • Experience in fiber optic cabling and termination

  • Provide technical support and training on security systems.

  • Research and recommend new security technologies and best practices.

  • Proficiency in security systems hardware and software installation and configuration.

  • Contractor management.

  • Responsible budget management and use.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair security systems issues.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Availability to work on-call and during emergencies.

  • Able to successfully obtain Transportation Workers Identification Credentials (TWIC) clearance.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
