Job Description:
This unique position will coordinate, integrate, and facilitate safety and security initiatives across RMI, leveraging subject matter experts (SMEs), accountable leaders, and predefined frameworks to achieve specific outcomes. As an individual contributor reporting to the Senior Manager of Information Security, you will work closely with Strategy, Legal, Cybersecurity, and other teams to continually evaluate, mitigate, and monitor enterprise risk for a global organization. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in conducting comprehensive risk assessments, implementing safety and security frameworks, responding to incidents, and fostering organizational resilience. This role requires balancing proactive project leadership with the implementation of established security risk and crisis management frameworks.
Lead the execution of safety and security projects, including policy rollouts, compliance reviews, and risk assessments.
Implement and formalize security risk management and crisis management frameworks.
Develop policies, plans, templates, and standard operating procedures for engaging in existing and new geographies.
Ensure the timely completion of initiatives in collaboration with SMEs, accountable leaders, and external vendors.
Provide technical expertise in implementing safety and security systems, tools, and processes.
Oversee physical access systems and controls for all U.S. RMI offices, collaborating with office managers to ensure secure environments.
Coordinate with ground security teams on emergency response plans and oversee the deployment of emergency response devices.
Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for physical, travel, event, and operational safety, including large-scale signature events such as the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP) and Climate Week NYC.
Evaluate security risks associated with geopolitical events, natural disasters, and global expansion opportunities.
Track key risk indicators (KRIs), prepare regular risk reports, and present findings to senior management.
Perform audits of RMI sites and projects, recalculating KRIs as necessary.
Develop, maintain, and test emergency response and disaster recovery plans.
Lead the Crisis Management Team (CMT), monitoring and coordinating crisis resolution efforts.
Socialize and launch crisis management processes, including creating playbooks, conducting tabletop exercises, and establishing communication channels with the CMT.
Document post-incident findings to improve future response activities.
Design and deliver training sessions to enhance staff awareness of risk management, safe travel, and crisis preparedness.
Develop user-friendly materials and guides to support compliance with safety and security best practices.
Partner with cross-functional teams to align safety and security efforts with organizational priorities.
Act as a liaison between subject matter experts and operational staff, ensuring cohesive implementation of safety and security measures.
Assist the Strategy team in researching and analyzing global expansion opportunities for RMIโs programs.
4-6 years of experience in a similar role.
Proven expertise in risk assessments, crisis management, and incident response.
Ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure, emergency scenarios.
Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to present complex security concepts to diverse stakeholders.
Excellent project management skills, with the ability to lead multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Proficiency in data analysis and reporting to track key risk indicators (KRIs) and present findings to senior management.
Exceptional problem-solving and incident resolution skills.
Understanding of geopolitical landscapes and their impact on business operations.
Exposure to global operations in high-risk environments is highly desirable.
Bachelor's degree in security management, Risk Management, Business Administration, or related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
Previous experience in nonprofit organizations.
Professional certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Project Management Professional (PMP), or equivalent.
Hands-on experience leading crisis management teams and developing crisis response playbooks.
Proficiency in conducting tabletop exercises and post-incident evaluations.
Knowledge of global compliance standards and regulations relevant to safety and security.

We are a remote-ready company with team members around the globe. Our beautiful and welcoming offices are available for meetings or focused work, whether you are traveling through or living nearby. Our U.S. offices are in New York City; Washington DC; Oakland, California; Boulder, Colorado, and Basalt, Colorado.

We love seeing each other in person! We occasionally gather for shared time together like retreats and learning experiences. Be ready to travel for occasional in-person meetings (and of course, we cover travel costs). Some roles may require more travel, which will be discussed during the hiring process.
Compensation
RMI compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary for this role is in between $85,000 - $105,000. You would also have an additional 5% bonus target!
