We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Roadway Design Engineer to join our team working on the SR400 Express Lanes project, one of our most significant large-scale infrastructure projects. As a key member of the design team, you will be responsible for overseeing the design and development of roadway infrastructure, ensuring compliance with project specifications, and working closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver successful outcomes. This position requires a Professional Engineer (PE) license and experience with roadway design for complex transportation projects.

Job Description

  • Lead the design of roadway geometry, alignment, cross-sections, and drainage systems for the SR400 Express Lanes project.
  • Develop and review plans, specifications, and estimates for roadway design, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers, construction teams, environmental specialists, and other engineers to ensure integrated, efficient, and constructible designs.
  • Perform engineering analyses and simulations related to traffic flow, horizontal/vertical geometry, and road safety.
  • Coordinate with local agencies, stakeholders, and utility companies to address any design constraints or project issues.
  • Review and manage the preparation of construction documents, including plan sets, design reports, and other technical documentation.
  • Ensure that designs meet schedule, budget, and quality targets.
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to junior engineers and designers, offering guidance on best practices and design processes.
  • Ensure that all designs adhere to environmental regulations and promote sustainability in roadway construction.
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to the development of project timelines, budgets, and scopes of work.
  • Stay current with new developments in roadway design standards, materials, and technology.

Required Skills and Competencies

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional License: Active PE (Professional Engineer) license in the state of [Insert State].
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in roadway design, with a focus on large infrastructure projects (experience with express lanes or highway systems is highly preferred).
  • Proficiency in roadway design software, such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or similar tools.
  • Strong knowledge of AASHTO and other relevant design standards, including federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Experience in coordinating and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including traffic engineers, environmental specialists, and construction personnel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to solve complex design challenges.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and a focus on quality and safety in design.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working on express lane or toll road projects.
  • Knowledge of design-build project delivery methods.
  • Familiarity with stormwater management systems and environmental considerations in roadway design.
  • Experience with traffic modeling and simulation tools (e.g., VISSIM, SYNCHRO).
