GENERAL SUMMARY

Provide leadership of the quality programs necessary to ensure that Columbia Generating Station (CGS) is designed and operated in a manner that is safe and reliable by: (a) establishing quality requirements and programs to monitor their effectiveness, (b) establishing and maintaining interfaces with station and company managers as well as the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), (c) ensuring timely and adequate programs are in place to implement quality requirements within CGS and Energy Northwest processes.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Manages the activities of the Quality Department through the following:

1. Prepares a business plan and annual budget for the department; operates the department within budget limitations; reports and explains variances
2. Develops and implements strategy for maximizing efficiency and decreasing costs of department to meet business plan objectives and achieve continuous improvement
3. Makes decisions about personnel regarding employment, performance expectations/reviews, promotions, salary changes, transfers and terminations
4. Resolves personnel problems
5. Prepares performance objectives for subordinates and advises subordinates in the more complex phases of their work
6. Coordinates the activities of the Quality Department with other areas of the company

Reviews significant plant safety issues through membership and participation in Corporate Nuclear Safety Review Board (CNSRB) and the Senior Nuclear Management group.

Provides independent advice to Senior Management on trends and performance of Energy Northwest regarding issues of personnel performance and nuclear safety.

Develops Quality supervisors and staff through coaching, mentoring, training programs, employee rotation, and diverse assignments.
Participates as a member of the Emergency Response Organization and Outage Organization.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related science from an accredited college or university.

Required experience includes (years of experience may be concurrent):

  • 4 years of work experience in responsible positions related to power generation of which 3 years shall be nuclear power plant experience.
  • 4 years supervisory/management experience.


Experience must include at least four years in the field of quality assurance, or equivalent number of years of nuclear plant experience in a supervisory position, preferably at an operating nuclear plant or a combination of the two. At least one year of this experience shall be nuclear power plant experience in the implementation of quality assurance program. (ANSI.ANS 3.1-1981 4.4.5 Quality Assurance) (Implementation of the quality assurance program is defined by experience within the Quality department or implementation of a program to meet OQAPD requirements and audited by the Quality department, reference SWP-ASU-01, Attachment 7.1)

Equivalency to a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related science degree will be determined and approved by the Vice President responsible for quality based upon an evaluation of the following factors:


1. High school diploma or GED plus one or more of the following:
2. Academic and related technical training.
3. Qualified as an NRC senior operator at the assigned plant.
4. Eight (8) years of additional experience in their area of responsibility.
5. Four (4) years of supervisory or management experience.
6. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly (verbally and in writing).
7. Certification of academic ability and knowledge by corporate management.
8. Successful completion of the Engineer-In-Training examination.
9. Professional Engineer License.
10. Associate degree in Engineering or a related science.

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Active or previous SRO license, SRO certification, or BWR Management Certification. If selected candidate does not meet this, he/she must attend and satisfactorily complete the next Management Cert class provided by EN. This requirement may be waived by the Vice President or CEO.

Pay Range

$157,548.00 - $236,322.00 Annual

Midpoint:

$196,935.00

Typically, selected candidates are hired between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience and qualifications, market rate, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.

Offers will be negotiated based on each candidate's qualifications.

Incentive Compensation

This role may be eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan. Incentives are earned based on employee performance against defined metrics and company goals.
