The base salary for this position is dependent upon experience and location ranging from $103,939 - $129,924
JOB SUMMARY:
Scope of Work:
- The Lead Test Engineer will address complex problems by leveraging best practices and industry knowledge to enhance processes and projects. This role involves leading teams and projects, identifying innovative solutions, and working independently with minimal guidance on complex tasks. Staying updated with industry advancements through training and associations is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Planning and Management: Assist in planning, managing, and directing the activities of the Testing and Commissioning Department related to the testing and protection & control of AVANGRID’s electrical equipment.
- Technical Support: Provide technical support and perform diverse testing for internal and external customers. Be prepared for extended hours, on-call duties, and up to 30% travel.
- Engineering Analysis: Perform detailed and complex engineering analyses, review designs and calculations using standard methodologies, and develop alternatives to resolve problems or improve processes/services.
- Duties: Analyze complex testing problems, recommend further testing, and assess equipment serviceability. Investigate and identify innovative solutions to troubleshoot equipment and system issues.
- Understanding Drawings: Interpret Protection and Control (P&C) drawings (e.g., one-line, schematics, and wiring diagrams). Develop and specify equipment, assemble/revise documents, and manage complex assignments using in-depth expertise.
- Duties: Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for critical testing equipment and schemes. Evaluate equipment design for development of complex test plan for commissioning, verification, and troubleshooting. Participate in industry associations.
- Leadership and Mentorship: Lead teams, mentor, and review the work of others. Anticipate and make recommendations based on customer and stakeholder needs. Explain complex concepts and influence others.
- Duties: Lead and represent the Testing & Commissioning group in completing tasks and projects. Function as a liaison between engineering and test technicians. Assist P&C in fault and equipment operation analysis. Manage and direct resources outside the department. Mentor and develop team members.
- Problem Solving: Resolve complex problems in non-standard situations and develop creative solutions. Apply applicable testing and commissioning practices, guidelines, AVANGRID philosophies, and procedures independently.
- Duties: Address and resolve complex technical field problems related to equipment and schemes.
- Project Management: Develop business cases and manage projects or teams. Coordinate phases of testing for assigned project portions. Plan, schedule, and monitor construction/test plans.
- Duties: Ensure compliance with regulations like NPCC (Directory 11), NERC (PRC 2, PRC 5), and AVANGRID Testing & Commissioning requirements. Evaluate equipment and assist in installation and commissioning testing. Identify training needs and assist in training technicians.
- Expertise and Collaboration: Possess in-depth experience, knowledge, and skills in Test Engineering and related business practices. Explain challenging issues and work to establish consensus. Work in cross-functional teams and guide or mentor other team members.
- Duties: Participate in the development, review, and continuous improvement of testing and commissioning procedures and related activities.

- Theoretical Engineering Knowledge (Competent/Advanced): Expertise in planning, operations, and engineering design. Proficient in analytics, modeling, and calculations. - Practical Engineering Experience/Application (Advanced): Extensive experience in planning, operations, engineering design, and construction. Includes field experience and standardization. Capable of performing economic analyses of engineering alternatives, developing business cases, and presenting them to stakeholders.
- Engineering Documentation (Competent/Advanced): Proficient in documenting and interpreting engineering documentation accurately.
- Review and Approval of Engineering Work (Competent): Ability to review and approve engineering work performed by others, ensuring compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment (Competent/Advanced): In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory standards and requirements.
Education & Experience Required:
- BS/BA degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET (or equivalent) accredited college/university, 7 years’ experience performing engineering duties or an AS degree with 11 years’ experience performing engineering duties.
- Possess depth and breadth of experience in Test engineering and knowledge of internal/external business and regulatory issues. Maintains knowledge of leading-edge techniques or technology through participation in professional associations. Able to explain difficult concepts and influence others to change. Able to communicate orally or in writing to regulatory and/or public entities. Able to lead a Team or mentor others.
