Internship Program Overview

Policy & Community Impact Overview
At RMI, policy and community engagement play a crucial role in accelerating the clean energy transition and driving systemic change. The Policy & Community Impact focus area supports research, advocacy, and stakeholder collaboration to advance sustainable policies and equitable energy solutions. Interns in this focus area may engage in policy analysis, regulatory research, and strategic advocacy efforts while also working on initiatives that foster inclusive engagement with communities, government entities, and key stakeholders. By bridging policy frameworks with community-driven solutions, this focus area helps ensure that the energy transition is not only innovative but also equitable and accessible for all.

General Qualifications
Currently enrolled in college preferably as a junior, senior, or master level graduate student. We also consider recent graduates as well. At this time, doctoral applicants are better suited for our Associate positions.
Field of Study: Public Policy, Political Science, Environmental Policy, International Relations, Urban Planning, Nonprofit Management, Sustainability Studies, Social Sciences, Communications, or related fields.
Coursework in policy analysis, environmental justice, governance, or community engagement
Understanding of regulatory frameworks, climate policies, and public affairs
Experience with advocacy, organizing, stakeholder engagement, or grassroots initiatives
Research or project experience related to energy justice, social equity, or sustainable development
Strong written communication skills for policy briefs, reports, and advocacy materials
Basic understanding of regulatory processes and government structures
Strong collaboration skills to work with community partners and stakeholders
Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to analyze policy impacts
Effective verbal and written communication for advocacy and engagement
You have the work authorization and legal right to work in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor visas for interns.
Compensation
Interns are paid $20.00/hr. and expected to work up to 40 hours per week.
