Job Summary:
For our CFO Renewables team in Houston, we are seeking a senior indirect tax associate to support the Tax department. This position is responsible for the multi-state sales and use tax compliance, audits, and research and oversees the coordination of property tax compliance by a third-party service provider. In addition, this position will be responsible for general ledger account reconciliations, vendor tax issue resolution, administrative tasks, and special projects.
The position is based in Downtown Houston with a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.
Responsibilities:
Maintain the compliance calendar for indirect taxes to ensure the timely filings and payments
Responsible for the preparation, filing, and payment of sales and use tax returns for multiple entities
Determine the taxability by reviewing invoices, purchase orders, and contracts
Responsible for the issuance and maintenance of customer exemption certificates
Manage the sales and use tax registration, permits, and business licenses
Prepare monthly general ledger indirect tax account reconciliations
Coordinate the collection of documentation and prepare responses to support companyβs position during tax audits
Interact with other departments (i.e., Development, Operations, Accounting, Procurement) to obtain information to prepare memoranda detailing indirect tax treatments
Oversee third-party preparation of property returns and related work papers
Coordinate technical tax research and analysis for local tax incentive programs (property tax/IRB, etc.)
Assist other tax related projects (i.e. IRA) as business needs required at the direction of management

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelorβs degree required
3 β 5 years of professional experience in U.S. sales and use tax compliance and consulting
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Self-disciplined, motivated, able to work with limited direct supervision, self-sufficient problem solver
CMI, CPA preferred
SAP experience a plus
Experience with tax research tools (i.e. CCH, Checkpoint, TTR, BNA etc.) a plus
