Position Summary: Operator in Advanced Products Hydrogenation Plant.  Safely perform plant production processes while adhering to all plant safety regulations.  

Primary Responsibilities: (Must consider: 1) knowledge required; 2) problem solving; and 3) accountability. Note: only “other duties as assigned” at 5%; other categories should represent how employee spends majority of their time; group “like items”.)

40%    1. Grade 1 - Production: :  Adept at hydrogenating iso into tetra while being able to skillfully adapt to atypical conditions and consult supervisor as needed.  Must be able to troubleshoot, in coordination with supervisor, issues resulting from processing a natural product.  Must be proactive and get ahead of problems.  Must always strive to conserve catalyst while still hitting quality parameters and properly recycle any material that comes into contact with the catalyst; thereby maximizing recycling yields.  Specifically inventorying fresh catalyst deliveries along with imputing the CofA data for each lot of catalyst into the hydrogenation checklist. Keeping the catalyst room and secondary catalyst cage organized and making sure to use the oldest catalyst lots first.  Must be able to run lab tests to determine reaction completion.   Perform other plant processes if needed, such as: iso alpha and beta separations, isomerization, formulation and packaging. Operate a forklift in order to receive supplies and store finished products.

15%    2. 5S/Maintenance: General housekeeping and facility maintenance.   Complete cleaning and organization tasks daily.  Troubleshoot equipment used to perform the above duties and perform any minor maintenance required. Inspect the nitrogen room purity, availability and make sure the required maintenance is up to date. Calibrating the overhead hydrogen sensor along with all four of the handheld sensors every two months along with recording the calibration in the AP checklist.

10%    3. Instrumentation and Trials: To assist the advanced products process chemist in running HPLC results, conducting lab scale trials and running the lab scale hydrogenator when necessary

10%    4. Safety: Inspect sensors and safety equipment.  Ensure safety communication board is up to date and update if necessary.  Assist with writing safety SOPs when needed.

10%    5. ERP: Use D365 to scan and receive items for the plant, including inventory counts of all products, supplies, chemicals and finished goods along with informing the supervisor when the .5, .2 micron filters and hydrogen trailer  need to be ordered. Fresh catalyst will need to be received, inventoried, and the CofA data will need to be entered into D365 for correct catalyst dosing.   Entry of required production information into the appropriate checklists in D365.

10%    6. Leadership: General onboarding and training of all new tetra operators including giving the final certification test.  Assist with writing SOPs when needed.  Perform leadership tasks through positive communication and coordination between the production supervisor, crew lead, and operator team.   Help implement and communicate production, safety, quality, and food safety issues.  Create an environment of problem solving by utilizing the Kaizen log and other communication tools and encouraging others to do the same.  Assist the Production Supervisor with other leadership duties as requested.

5%      7. Other duties as assigned. 

Conditions of Employment:   

  1. Work a 40-hour work week.  (Hours worked in excess of 8 per day, as required to finish a batch operation, are paid as overtime per the current Union Agreement.)
  2. This position requires long periods of standing and the ability to lift 55 pounds (with or without assistance).
  3. Willing/able to work with chemicals.
  4. Must comply with all John I. Haas, Inc. policies and procedures, including successful passing of a pre-employment drug test.
  5. Must comply with our Integrated Management System (IMS) and be trained on procedures applicable to the requirements of the position, including managing significant quality, environmental, and food safety aspects.

Qualifications:  (Education/Experience/Skills required of the Position)

Required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in science, or a related field.
  2. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  3. Basic knowledge of machinery, equipment and computer spreadsheets.
  4. Must be able to adequately perform all job duties at current grade level before being eligible for advancement to the next grade level.  Eligibility for advancement is also dependent on department needs and ability to train (and certify when appropriate) on upper grade responsibilities.

 Preferred:

  1. SharePoint, D365 ERP, Allen Bradley, and/or Auto CAD experience
  2. Instrumentation, process controls, valves/pumps, refrigeration and steam system background.
  3. Relevant OSHA certifications and trainings
  4. Team lead experience
