This position will be within NREL’s Building Technologies and Science Center, where researchers work on cross-cutting technologies and support different centers and directorates. The intern will be responsible for designing and presenting the research results from the distribution feeder modelling and running analysis for key demand flexibility scenarios. The candidate will be an independent contributor to lead the analysis and simulation results through data visualization.
The candidate will be required to work with real world grid and building data to develop a distribution feeder for a utility. The candidate will interact with multiple groups within NREL that includes grid modelling, building/district energy systems, energy efficiency measures (EEMs),
This position is looking for a graduate student intern who has a solid background in grid modelling and control. The ideal candidate is expected to have a good knowledge of distribution feeders and Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). The successful candidate should be able to conduct research work independently and collaborate with the project team members.
The candidate must have the capability to carry out distribution modeling and simulation studies for advanced applications. These studies should consider the integration of DER and active distribution grid management, feeder modeling, and impacts analysis using OpenDSS with these integrations.

Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master’s or PhD degree program from an accredited institution. Recent graduates from a masters program will also be considered.
The successful candidate must have power industry experience or coursework towards power system studies.
