Job Description Summary:

The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical projects involving electrical, solar systems and substations. This role involves analyzing project specifications, collaborating with project managers, clients, and engineers, and ensuring that all estimates are completed on time.

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

Project Planning and Review:

  • Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed cost estimates.

  • Accurately identify and quantify all materials, labor, and equipment needed for projects.

  • Meet and maintain bidding and work schedules.

  • Analyze and compare subcontractor and supplier quotes.

  • Prepare all bid documents (estimate, qualifications & exclusions, and Owner Bid Form).

  • Take verbal or written job information for estimating purposes.

  • Maintain and update cost databases and estimating software or excel estimating templates

  • Participate in estimate reviews.

  • Occasionally conduct site visits to gather information and assess project requirements.

Supplier and Subcontractor Management:

  • Work with subcontractors to define and get costs for various scopes of work.

  • Maintain good relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.

  • Negotiate costs and scope with suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors.

Risk and Compliance:

  • Identify risks involved in the projects.

  • Assist in the preparation of risk matrix and go/no-go decision with management

  • Adhere to electrical code and regulations.

Client Interaction:

  • Assist in the presentation to clients the scope of work and costs associated with their projects.

  • Work with the customer and owner to understand the project, scope, and timeline, while building strong relationships for continued customer service.

Continuous Improvement and Updates:

  • Assist in the negotiation of contracts and change orders.

  • Look for continuous process improvement.

  • Reprice the project and make continued updates to the proposal as changes occur throughout the life cycle of the bid.

  • Develop and maintain estimate version management process.

  • Strong organizational skills: ability to manage multiple pricing efforts at once and meet deadlines

  • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices.

  • Preparation of accurate estimates.

  • Create commonly used materials and tools lists with a trade pricing database.

  • Create commonly used subcontractors and services lists.

  • Develop scope of work documents from estimates and understanding of project requirements.

  • Keep records of past project costs for estimate adjustments and labor comparison.

  • Communicate projected costs and profitability to the project management team.

  • Develop WBS and base project schedule.

  • Work effectively in a team environment as well as individually.

  • Provide viable solutions to increase project profitability.

  • Continue learning and developing skill sets.

  • Maintain self-control under pressure.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or architectural degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Electrical and/or utility scale solar construction experience is a plus.

  • Understanding of electrical substation and its components is preferred.

  • Minimum of 4 years of estimating experience.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to read and understand specifications and drawings.

  • Ability to make accurate judgments and calculations.

  • Working knowledge of electrical and construction costs, principles, and codes.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Highly analytical, with the ability to quickly assess and analyze multiple data points, including blueprints, material costs, and timelines, to deliver an accurate estimate.

  • Ability to use various storage and file-sharing programs and find needed information.

  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook), particularly Excel.

Compensation Range:

$104,215.00 - $130,270
