Repsol is seeking an experienced Environmental Sr. Analyst from the oil & gas industry to join the Safety and Environment Excellence Center, based out of our office in Horseheads, New York. This role will primarily support our Marcellus asset (approx. 70%) as well as other global E&P projects.

Salary: Base salary starts at $111,500, taking into consideration individual qualifications, experience, and additional skills applicable to the role.

Location: Horseheads, New York - hybrid, in office plus field visits / inspections

  • Must be available for local field travel at least a few times a month or as needed.
  • Primarily supports the Marcellus asset (approx. 70%) therefore the individual must be a local resident (within a one-hour drive of the Horseheads, NY area) to quickly report on site as needed.

The team you are joining

As an Environmental Sr. Analyst, you will be a member of a multidisciplinary Global E&P Safety and Environmental Excellence Center team. This team provides support to all E&P business across Repsol's operating assets, primarily within the Marcellus shale formation. The Environmental Sr. Analyst is critical to the coordination of environmental programs within our operated assets and will leverage technical expertise to advise E&P Business units. There will be a significant focus on the permitting processes for exploration and carbon capture and storage projects. The position works both in-office with local HSE teams and discipline managers, as well in the field, overseeing site inspections and regulatory matters with local consultants.

You will bring a strong foundation of both education and experience, having at least 5 years in a similar role, and 10 years or more within the oil and gas industry as a whole. The Environmental Sr. Analyst must be highly organized, detailed, methodical and process-oriented, while working in a highly collaborative cross-functional team, requiring an inclination towards timely, clear, precise, and engaging communication.


Main tasks

  • Ensure that environmental impacts are identified and duly assessed in every phase of the life cycle of projects and assets.
  • Suggest environmental impact prevention and mitigation measures and support their implementation.
  • Support the Marcellus Asset to achieve legal compliance in environmental matters regarding environmental design, water, waste, oil spill prevention and contaminated site management.
  • Provide environmental and permitting support to other assets and Business Units in the US (Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, Texas).

Marcellus Asset Scope: act as Environmental Coordinator for the Marcellus Asset of Repsol

  • Management of environmental programs: define environmental programs (air, waste, water, noise, soil and groundwater) and monitor progress of these programs. Communicate results with local authorities according to local regulations.
  • Environmental contractor management: supervise environmental contractors in the Marcellus Asset so that they comply with Repsol’s scope and procedures. Contract Holder for environmental contractors.
  • Environmental control of contractors: Ensure that contractors such as Drilling and Completions, Construction, Operation and Maintenance, and others comply with Repsol and local regulatory environmental requirements. Perform assurance activities (auditing and inspection) of contractor’s compliance.
  • SPCC: Manage spill prevention plans and compliance with State and Federal regulatory requirements.
  • Incident management: ensure timely response to environmental incidents, documenting the response and following up the management of any liabilities generated.
  • Management of change: participate in MoC processes to ensure environmental compliance, support in implementation of tools, endorse risk assessments.
  • Emergency Response: cover the environmental function in the Incident Management Team following ICS.
  • Environmental Training: definition of training plans, identification of training needs and requirements, assurance.
  • Communicate S&E aspects at all levels: at field level for improving S&E processes, and at higher levels for showing progress against defined strategies or work plans.

Global Scope: Provide environmental technical assistance to Repsol E&P Business Units on an ad-hoc basis

  • Support on Environmental Permitting processes for Exploration and Carbon Capture and Storage projects.
  • Perform environmental technical reviews of projects, assessing compliance with Repsol standards and with local regulations.
  • Assess the feasibility of Circular Economy initiatives.
  • Support in the management of contaminated sites, providing technical assistance for the definition of strategies and remediation plans.
  • Perform environmental assessments for project and assets.
  • Report environmental data following Repsol’s internal requirements.
  • Support corporate environmental initiatives.
  • Identify best practices and synergies between different Business Units.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US for any company without the need for sponsorship now or in the future.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role (environmental / regulatory), having a least 10+years overall within the oil and gas industry.
  • Must have previous knowledge of Pennsylvania and New York State O&G environmental regulations. In addition, Environmental Permitting experience in the Texas, Pennsylvania, Alaska, and/or Gulf of Mexico is preferable.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in either engineering or environmental science.
  • Experience in permitting CCS projects will be considered positively: Class VI, relation with authorities, NEPA processes.
  • English fluency. Spanish knowledge in addition to English would be favorable.
