Responsibilities
Development of fundamental knowledge and skills required to support the performance of Electrical Test Department job responsibilities. The technical work performed by Test Department personnel is to support the testing, analyzing, troubleshooting, maintenance, commissioning, and compliance needs, for GIS, DG, Storm Hardening, SCADA, Communication Systems, JMUX, Corporate & Secure Network, transmission, substation, distribution and customer power system facilities, equipment and tools.
The knowledge and skills being developed in this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Satisfactory completion of assigned portions of the Test Dept TMP program
- A working understanding of electric system facilities and equipment
- An understanding of and the ability to effectively operate common and specialized test equipment and software
- Ability to effectively utilize computer hardware and software, and electronic systems applications
- Basic troubleshooting and problem solving skills and techniques
- Ability to identify abnormal conditions and initiate an appropriate general response
- An understanding of and ability to accurately interpret basic protection, control and metering schematics
- Basic skills related to diagnostic testing, interpretation of test results and ability to draw conclusions, make recommendations and initiate corrective action
- Calculate electric formulas and apply the results.
- Understand and apply CONVEX ESOP 100 (switching and tagging) and pass the testing.
- Be approved for the CONVEX ESOP 100 Approved Person List
- Job safety, including confined space, CPR, first aid, bucket rescue, defensive driving, and all PPE.
- Familiarity with UI Switching and Tagging Procedures.
- Obtain and hold NERC Certification.
Skills and Requirements
- Develop knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for operating, troubleshooting, commissioning, and maintaining the electric system and components under the direction of higher levels of Test Department personnel. Acquire necessary methods, procedures and skills through on the job training to progress through the Test Dept TMP program from Electrical Test Assistant “B”, to Electrical Test Assistant “A”.
- Comply with all NERC standards and requirements, including UI procedures and processes to meet the NERC Standards and requirements. This includes but is not limited to Personnel Risk Assessments, NERC CIP Training, completing compliance documentation, physical access procedures, electronic access control, and other process and/or procedures that UI uses to comply with the NERC Standards. Failure to adhere could result in costly fines against the Company.
- Position requires a commitment to work overtime contiguous with the normal work day to finish the day’s assignment, and outside normal work hours to perform scheduled and unplanned emergency work.
- May be required to work overtime for developmental/ experiential purposes during 90-day probation/trial period. Placed on OT call-in list for Test Assistant needs after 90 days.
- Work Environment and Hazards
- Work is located inside and outside of electrical substations, manholes, vaults, customer locations, and roadside. Exposure to weather, high voltages, gases, and toxic liquids. Falling hazards are present when working with ladders, bucket trucks, aerial lifts, and scaffolding. Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment when transporting and executing job assignments.

Qualifications
Education: ASEE Degree
Experience: 0 Years
Requires an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Entry-level; related electrical experience and leadership aptitude preferred.
Knowledge of computer, computerized systems (e.g. WORD, EXCEL, SAP, GIS) and electrical devices and controls) is preferred. Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
