Job Description Summary:

The Electrical Preconstruction CAD Drafter will be responsible for assisting with preconstruction electrical detailing packages to support utility scale renewable energy projects.

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CAD Drafter to join our team specializing in utility-scale solar projects. The CAD Drafter will play a critical role in designing and drafting technical drawings and documentation for utility scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. This position involves close collaboration with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and efficient designs that meet industry standards and project specifications.

This position may be remote or in office based in San Diego, CA. Occasional travel to project sites may be required.

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for utility-scale solar PV systems, including electrical installation details, electrical schematics, and mechanical details.

  • Prepare construction-ready drawings and applicable documentation.

  • Revise and update existing drawings to reflect design changes or project modifications.

  • Collaborate with engineers and preconstruction team to interpret project requirements, specifications, installation standards, and industry codes.

  • Conduct quality checks to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant standards (e.g., NEC, IEC).

  • Maintain organized records of all drawings, revisions, and related documentation.

  • Assist with site assessments or visits to gather data for accurate designs when required.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:

  • Diploma or certification in Drafting, CAD, or a related technical field.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with other design tools (e.g., SketchUp, Revit) is a plus.

  • 2+ years of experience in drafting for solar PV systems, commercial electrical trades, or related industries (utility-scale experience preferred).

  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles as they relate to solar projects or electrical installations.

  • Familiarity with solar PV and electrical components, system design practices, and industry standards.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and precision in drafting.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality deliverables.
