ABOUT THE POSITION


Reporting to the Senior Director of Technical Accounting, Financial Reporting, and SOX, – the Director of Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting will develop, lead, and manage the Technical Accounting and Financial reporting team at Avantus. The Director will implement policies and procedures; analyze complex contracts and agreements; review and draft financial statements; and help build out the company's technical accounting and financial reporting function. Prior public accounting and/or SEC experience strongly preferred. 


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 



  • Manage the Company’s revenue recognition and technical accounting department, including creating policies and procedures to ensure treatment in accordance with US GAAP. 

  • Perform significant financial reporting responsibilities, including drafting footnotes and full financial statements.

  • Implement and monitor procedures to maintain a high level of documentation standards, including documenting complex revenue recognition or other technical accounting matters in technical white papers.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the other members of the Revenue Recognition and Technical Accounting team.

  • Interact and advise senior and executive management by serving as a subject matter expert on complex accounting issues including revenue recognition and other transactions with potential significant impact to the organization.

  • Assist in the evaluation of the accounting treatment for significant transactions. Research applicable GAAP and SEC accounting and disclosure requirements for proposed transactions.  

  • Review contracts to identify technical accounting matters and prepare analyses and memorandums. Participate during contract negotiations to identify potential accounting considerations and remediation alternatives.

  • Be a key leader in the external audit and review process by providing audit support; relevant schedules; and leading discussions with our external auditor (Deloitte).  

  • Work closely with project finance and FP&A teams to provide support and ensure technical guidance is followed and accounting guidance is timely provided.  

  • Assist with implementation of and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 key controls and processes.

  • Lead ad-hoc projects as they arise. 


 


REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS



  • 10+ years of experience in accounting, Big 4 accounting firm and SEC experience is a plus

  • 4-year degree in accounting (CPA required)

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to lead and build small teams.

  • Self-motivated- able to think independently, creatively, and opportunistically

  • Proven ability to collaborate cross functionally

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products with very strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills
