Job Description Summary:

Provide leadership in the design, development, and delivery of our monitoring and controls platform utilized on EPC projects.

This position can be remote, or hybrid based in San Diego, CA or Bend, OR.

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead a diverse team of SCADA Engineering Managers and Engineers in the planning, design, and deployment of SOLV Energy’s monitoring and control systems utilized on utility-scale renewable energy generation plants.

  • Lead and manage geographically focused teams across North America, ensuring cohesive collaboration and alignment with company objectives across various regions.

  • Guide, mentor, and develop management talent within OTS to support a scalable and cohesive team structure

  • Provide a clear vision for SCADA technology evolution and drive innovation through the adoption of new technology solutions, ensuring SCADA platforms stay ahead of industry advancements and meet evolving customer needs.

  • Identify new SCADA market opportunities and effectively communicate compelling business cases through the leadership review and approval process.

  • Lead the implementation of new services and product offerings to support business growth objectives and to meet client needs for added capabilities

  • Oversee the forecasting, budgeting and cost management of the department and provide monthly updates to senior management

  • Support business planning activities by providing revenue, headcount and budget forecasts based on project workload across our EPC businesses

  • Promote the development of design, product quality, reliability, and supportability standards for our SCADA solutions

  • Engage with new and existing clients to support business development activities

  • Collaborate with procurement and supply chain management with purchasing forecasts, equipment availability updates, and escalate risks that could impact project schedules

  • Maintain a SCADA platform development pipeline that aligns with business objectives and committed project requirements

  • Support engineering and procurement with new technology assessments including but not limited to; inverter selection, energy storage, trackers, plant controls, analytics

  • Support a culture of continuous improvement and look for opportunities to improve processes and manage projects more efficiently

  • Support talent recruiting and development

  • The Director of SCADA will lead the transformation of SCADA from an internal service supporting EPC projects to an embedded business that services a wider range of client needs beyond the current EPC-only scope.

  • Maintain relationships with SOLV Energy suppliers and strategic business partners

  • Develop leadership-level relationships with new and prospective clients to identify customer needs and customer satisfaction

  • Provide industry awareness of the competitive landscape and communicate to the SOLV Energy leadership team through regular verbal and written updates

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive SCADA team job descriptions to align with organizational needs and industry standards

  • Implement strategies to enhance employee retention and engagement

  • Oversee employee promotion processes, ensuring alignment with performance metrics and career development pathways

  • Provide strategic direction for the growth and evolution of SCADA teams

  • Manage and advocate for budgetary needs related to SCADA operations

  • Serve as a representative of SCADA interests in discussions with executive leadership, ensuring alignment with business objectives

  • Apply engineering expertise in the commissioning of utility-scale solar power plants

  • Foster a positive and collaborative workplace culture

  • Encourage autonomous team operations, providing leadership where beneficial while minimizing unnecessary management bureaucracy

  • Collaborate with the existing management team to enhance and build upon established initiatives, ensuring continuity with existing efforts

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:

  • Engineering degree in electrical or mechanical engineering is preferred.

  • Minimum of 10+ years of engineering experience (experience working within renewable energy including; industrial or utility scale PV solar, BESS or Wind desired). Minimum of 4 years of PV solar industry experience (utility-scale experience desired)

  • Experience with Energy Management Systems (EMS) desired

  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams

  • Experience with applicable technology including; control systems, data collection, software applications, networking and telecommunications, web-based applications

  • Experience identifying and vetting new vendors, integrators, or business partners

  • Experience with Scope of Work contract reviews

  • Customer escalation and conflict resolution skills desirable

  • Resource planning and mitigation management

  • Cost budget management

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient use of Microsoft office tools including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Power BI

  • Experience using task management tools including but not limited to; MS Teams, Smartsheet, Jira or others.

  • Experience working for a diverse multi-disciplined company

  • Strong team building and leadership skills

Compensation Range:

$158,412.00 - $210,688.00
