AES is seeking a Director of Project Controls for US Renewables. The Director of Project Controls is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of project controls across the US Renewables portfolio. This individual will provide strategic direction and hands-on leadership in Scheduling, Cost Management, and Labor Compliance from early-stage development through construction, completion, and transition to operations. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in full regulatory compliance. This position reports to the Vice President of EPC Business Operations and will focus on utility-scale solar, battery storage, and wind projects throughout the US.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Controls Leadership
Lead the overall Project Controls function, aligning scheduling, cost, and labor compliance strategies with business objectives.
Establish and maintain integrated reporting systems to provide clear visibility into project performance, risks, and milestones.
Scheduling Management
Direct and mentor the Scheduling team in the development, maintenance, and optimization of detailed project schedules for wind, solar, and hybrid projects.
Oversee risk identification and mitigation related to project timelines, ensuring proactive intervention and scenario planning.
Cost Management
Manage the Cost Management team to track and analyze project financial performance, ensuring adherence to approved budgets and early identification of deviations.
Develop and implement robust cost reporting processes, enabling effective communication of financial performance to internal stakeholders including Estimating and Preconstruction teams.
Labor Compliance Oversight
Continue to build and lead a Labor Compliance function to ensure strict adherence to local, state, and federal labor regulations.
Partner with Execution Project Management, Legal, and Tax teams to ensure ongoing compliance and proactive issue resolution.
Data & Systems Integration
Champion the development of automated and scalable project control systems that support real-time data analysis and executive reporting.
Leverage advanced tools, including emerging AI technologies, to enhance the accuracy, speed, and insight of project control processes.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Serve as a key liaison between project controls and development, engineering, procurement, construction, and operations teams.
Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement across all project phases.
The Director of Project Controls must be able and willing to develop robust data systems and reporting to facilitate review of project status across all Controls functions. This role will also interface with cross-functional teams across the entire business unit.
Experience/Qualifications/Education Requirements:
8+ years progressively responsible experience, leadership roles desired
Experience in the renewable power industry with significant wind and/or solar/battery energy management experience strongly preferred
BS degree in specialized field required, advance study in Project Management and/or MBA desired
Strong understanding of cost control and scheduling best practices, experience with both in renewables preferred
Excellent understanding of project cycle including feasibility, development, design and utility processes and EPC contracting
Outstanding social skills, including internal collaborator management and ability to maintain professional and effective exchanges with team members and outside parties
Excellent organizational skills proven by clear and effective project plans and executive level reporting
Proficient in MS Office suite of products and scheduling software (Primavera P6)
Experience or desire to interact with AI technologies

Willingness to travel up to 10%
