POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT
Moss’ Solar Controller is responsible for all accounting and financial reporting, including recruiting, development, and leadership of accounting staff and maintaining control systems for a dynamic, rapid growth, fast paced Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Business Unit in the solar industry with revenues exceeding $2B per year.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and manage the accounting department, including project accountants and staff accounting personnel. Oversee the business unit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes; ensure timely and accurate reporting in compliance with GAAP
- Monitor and analyze project financial performance, including revenue recognition (percentage-of-completion), cost forecasting, and variance analysis; key leader on the WIP and project forecasting
- Supervises complex journal entries and understands their impact on the balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows and other reports as required by Senior Management
- Mentor and develop a high-performing team with a focus on continuous improvement
- Support systems optimization and automation across the accounting function (e.g., ERP upgrades, process enhancements); the company is preparing for an ERP upgrade in the next 2 years, so supporting and coordinating with the corporate team and Finance Transformation team will be critical
- Recommends/implements new and/or modifications to internal control procedures
- Collaborates with FP&A and treasury to support annual budget, forecasts, LRPs and cash management
- Collaborates with Operations teams (i.e. PM’s, asset management teams, HR/staffing teams) to ensure accurate status and provide necessary training
- Supports special projects directed by Senior Management
- Support annual external audit and yearend financial reporting for the business unit
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), or progressing towards a CPA/CA accreditation preferred
- 10 years of accounting experience with ability to demonstrate leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Significant experience in project accounting within a self-perform construction or EPC environment (solar, general construction, or related field preferred)
- Public accounting experience preferred
- Experience working in fast pace rapidly growing company directly or as an audit engagement
- Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate complex financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
- Strong analytical and presentation skills using MS office (Excel, PP, Word)
- Strong working knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage, CMiC, Oracle, or similar)
