ACCIONA Construction USA, part of the SR 400 Peach Partners consortium, have been awarded the contract to design and construct the SR 400 Express Lanes project in Atlanta, Georgia. This $4.6 billion project, awarded by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), is a key public-private partnership aimed at addressing congestion on a major highway in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

The Commercial Manager will manage, control and be accountable for the commercial functions of procurement, subcontract administration and payment, contractual claims and contractual management (strategy advice, advancement of claims and defense of claims), including commercial reporting to the Project Management Team.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Management and Supervision of contract and commercial functions.
  • Commercial and contractual advice to Executives and project team.
  • Development and implementation of commercial and contractual management procedures.
  • Risk identification and mitigation of all commercial risks.
  • Commercial reporting and analysis of financial position of the project.
  • Training and development of commercial and project staff.
  • Subcontract procurement, administration and claims management.
  • Commercial management of designers and the design process.
  • Ensure compliance with all contractual agreements related to federal, and state laws, particularly applicable Occupational Health & Safety Acts/Construction Safety Act regulations and environmental requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Sound understanding of contractual, commercial and financial functions on major civil projects.
  • Able to provide direction, leadership, and support to all commercial staff.
  • Command the respect of the Executive Board and project team members on commercial matters.
  • Advise on commercial strategy for successful project execution.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Currently operating at senior executive level on a major civil project or as commercial director in a large construction company.
  • Proven commercial management ability at executive level.
  • Thorough knowledge of contract language and legal requirements of contracts.
  • Previous experience working in a self-performance delivery model is desirable.
  • Excellent people and leadership skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Proven experience in commercial and contractual management experience on major civil international projects.
  • Proven experience of more than 15 years as commercial director or senior executive with a large construction company.
  • Proven track record on delivering commercial success on major civil projects.
  • Experience in managing thirty or more commercial staff.
  • Previous major project Joint Venture experience is desirable.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related Construction field, and or/corresponding professional membership.
