The Back-Office Analyst is an entry level position responsible for a variety of activities related to wholesale trading physical natural gas transactions in U.S. and Canadian markets. This includes trade confirmations, trade settlement and invoicing, as well as broker and clearing reconciliations. This position reports to the Back Office Manager of a Repsol Gas Trading North America, part of Repsol – a large multi-national energy company.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that energy trades are properly recorded using counterparty confirmations to reconcile. Identify any differences between our records and counterparties’ confirmations and resolve differences.

  • Support recent initiative to automate confirmations and invoice reconciliation process

  • Ensure that energy trade confirmations reflect key provisions, such as volume, pricing, delivery location, payment and credit terms.

  • Assist with the validation of transportation confirmations.

  • Assist with managing the contract and confirmation dispute resolution

  • Responsible for the settlements of all broker invoices

  • Generates and manages invoices for energy transactions assigned by Manager

  • Ensures timely and accurate billing of customers

  • Responsible for handling all manual payments assigned by Manager

  • Responsible for gathering cross border pipeline data from EBBs and reconciling it against the ETRM system

  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual regulatory filings.

  • Perform tasks related to sales tax compliance documentation, ensuring sales tax exemptions are provided or obtained as necessary

  • Assist with troubleshooting any back-office process issues, collaborating with Accounting, Treasury and Process Support

  • Assist in providing data to internal and external customers when requested.

  • Perform all other duties assigned by manager

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or a combination of experience and education that provides similar skill set

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

  • Aptitude to be trained

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to share knowledge cross-functionally; comfortable receiving questions about work product and ease with explaining processes and procedures and understanding linkages to internal controls

  • Self-motivated, able to work productively with little supervision to manage workflow and juggle priorities to meet deadlines

  • Persistence in problem-solving, and attitude of continuous process improvement

  • Flexible; able to continually adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced trading environment while maintaining calm and motivational attitude

  • Teamwork; comfort in continual and daily collaboration with other Back-office analysts, working as a team to meet department objectives and back each other up

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.

  • Attention to detail; aptitude for reconciling similar trade details daily

  • Familiarity with processes related to capturing wholesale natural gas transactions in ETRM systems preferred.

  • Familiarity with SAP or similar Accounting system preferred.

  • Familiarity with using PowerBI, Tableau, SQL, Python, or R preferred.

  • Bilingual English, Spanish preferred.
