DescriptionThe laboratory technician intern will provide support to the laboratory including accurate, precise, safe, and efficient sampling, sample preparation and analysis of facility liquids, gases and solids. Interns will be exposed to a variety of projects, activities, and operations that occur within a renewable energy business. Interns will have the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills learned in college and demonstrate abilities in the workplace. The position is temporary, nonexempt, part-time/hourly.
Responsibilities
- Accurate, precise, safe and efficient sampling, sample preparation and analysis of facility liquids, gases and solids.
- Provide accurate, precise and timely reporting of results.
- Follow strict quality control procedures established through the instrumentation supervisor and adhere to California Environmental Protection Agency and United States Environmental Protection Agency’s analytical procedures.
- Perform work with moderate supervision and directions from supervisor.
- Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be a college student, second year or higher standing, currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field.
- Ability to effectively use basic wet chemistry techniques, gas chromatography, ion chromatography, optical emission spectroscopy and x-ray fluorescent spectroscopy.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations used in the lab such as dilution and analysis of data statistics. Ability to calculate figure and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry and statistics. Capable of drawing and interpreting graphs.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record.
