POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT
Moss’ Solar Safety Manager (BESS) supports the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team in the development implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of Moss Solar’s EHS programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements within an assigned project. This position will achieve that goal by being in a position to lead a project site.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement safety protocols specific to solar battery storage systems
Conduct hazard and risk assessments for energy storage installations
Inspect and audit storage systems for safety compliance
Investigate safety incidents and recommend corrective actions
Provide training and guidance to field technicians and engineers on safe battery handling and emergency procedures
Stay current on applicable safety standards, codes, and best practices (NFPA 855, UL 9540, NEC 706, etc.)
Coordinate with engineering, operations, and project management teams to integrate safety into project planning and execution
Provides direction and oversight of project EHS team
Supports and leads by influence and strategic partnership with project and construction team on assigned site
Keeps safety credentials current
Demonstrated ability to evaluate environmental health and safety related risks
Knowledge of record-keeping principles and practices
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team with attention to detail and organizational abilities
Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field preferred
3+ years of experience in energy storage safety, preferably with battery systems
In-depth knowledge of safety regulations related to battery storage and renewable energy systems
Certification in occupational safety (e.g., CSP, CHST, OSHA 30/OSHA 510) preferred
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to safely drive a company vehicle. Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
Demonstrated ability to use standard office software programs, including spreadsheets, databases, word processing, etc.
