Position: Solar Academy Lead Instructor
JOB TYPE: Full-Time
Hourly Rate: $25-$30 per hour.
REPORTS TO: Director of Education + Career Development, Shanisha Mitchell
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Solar Academy Lead Instructor will work directly with the Director of Education and will play a key role in advancing Solar States’ mission by enhancing and expanding the education segment. The primary responsibility is to become deeply familiar with Solar States’ solar installer training programs, curricula, and student population. As the Lead Instructor, you will also train additional teachers as demand increases.
Key Responsibilities:
● Coordinate day-to-day logistics of education and workforce development programs.
● Classroom instruction and management of classroom behavior.
● Plan and organize lessons, including hands-on solar training workshops.
● Curriculum development for courses such as Intro to Solar/Green Energy, PV Associates, and PVIP.
● Maintain classroom training tool inventory.
● Collaborate with the Director of Education to devise and implement strategies to enhance education programs.
● Work with the Director of Education to coordinate with education and workforce development partners, including OIC, PowerCorpsPHL, Job Corps, and ECA.
● Collaborate with the Director of Residential Projects and Foreman to build and lead professional development sessions for the install crew.
● Organize training sessions to build the install crew's capacity.
● Assist the Director of Education with recruitment events and presentations as needed.
● Develop and implement plans for the growth of Solar States’ education department in collaboration with the Director of Education.
It is anticipated that your time will be divided as follows:
● 60% in classroom instruction
● 30% in curriculum development and lesson planning
● 10% in recruitment, particularly when there are no training programs in session.
Requirements:
● Minimum of 2 years of solar installation experience.
● Preferred knowledge of IronRidge racking systems.
● Interest in mentoring and developing others.
● Crew lead experience is highly encouraged.
CERTIFICATIONS:
● Complete the NABCEP PV Associates exam within six months of your start date.
● We encourage pursuing the NABCEP Installation Professional certification and will cover the exam cost.
● Solar States supports continuous education and may approve other certifications on a case-by-case basis.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: For Full-Time Employees:
● 15 days of paid vacation per year (prorated).
