Job Description

The Data, Analysis, and Visualization group, located within NREL’s Computational Sciences Center, is seeking a full-time data scientist with experience in the analysis of High-Performance Computing (HCP) runtime data. The position is for a dynamic and motivated person with a strong interest in advancing the renewable energy mission of NREL by supporting world-class research, innovation, and leadership in computational science.

This position will help NREL prototype, analyze, and optimize new capabilities in High Performance Computing (HPC). The prototyping tasks will require strong programming skills, and the analysis work will include elements of statistics, data science, ML/AI, and visualization, and an exceptional understanding of the state-of-the-art approaches in HPC data analytics.

Candidates with prior experience in ML/AI and HPC will find great opportunity to apply their skills in this position.

Candidates should have a strong technical background, good work ethic, and be comfortable learning and applying new technologies, as the role will include self-starting and performing many technical tasks independently. The role also requires collaboration and effective communication with peers, mentors, and team members, as well as with stakeholders outside of the team with a high degree of professionalism. The successful candidate will not shy away from tackling challenges, but rather, demonstrate eagerness to engineer creative solutions. In this vein, the candidate should have a high degree of curiosity, excitement to work as a team, and ability to adapt to needs of differing projects and challenges by gaining and utilizing new skills in support of research goals.

Basic Qualifications

Relevant Master's Degree . Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 2 or more years of experience . General knowledge and application of scientific technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques. Training in team, task or project leadership responsibilities. Intermediate abilities and knowledge of practices and techniques. Beginning experience in project management. Good technical writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
