Job Description
LanzaJet has an immediate need for a Global Projects Integration and Execution Director to join their growing Operations team in our Deerfield, IL location. Will be responsible for leading teams to deliver project(s) that span across LanzaJet’s Global portfolio. The director will manage resources, schedules, financials and adhere to control guidelines throughout the full project development life cycle. This also includes management of issues, risks, and project change requests to ensure successful and on-time project delivery. The Project Director will work with the Technology Leadership Team to coordinate the project(s) and will have a primary role in managing the projects execution portfolio through the engineering team, project managers, Engineering/Procurement and Construction (EPC) alliances to ensure performance is in accordance with project execution plans, contract documents, including all aspects required to execute LanzaJet’s Alcohol to Jet production plants in the US and internationally. The project management role will encompass coordinating internal engineers and staff, EPC’s, vendors, and subcontractors to deliver results for project safety, quality, budget, and schedule performance and build comprehensive tracking software tools to encompass all aspects of the projects. In addition, they will enable the coordination of appropriate information flow among key stakeholders, including executive management, the board of directors, government funding agencies, and investors, to ensure the smooth operation of the project from start to finish.
The Project Director will drive the integration of plant designs in green field locations and existing infrastructure and utilities for several projects across the globe. The Project Director will have a more comprehensive role through mechanical completion and then transition to a role that facilitates technology transfer, as needed, for commissioning, start-up and run and maintain operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage the Global Project portfolio
  • Develop and ensure the company-wide rollout of software tools for tracking all aspects of the projects.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives as it relates to improving project delivery
  • Plan project activities and develop the project schedule
  • Develop the total installed cost estimate
  • Perform all aspects of project integration activities including project reporting, monitoring, and controlling and resource forecasting
  • Work with Project Controls to monitor project metrics and to control project costs and schedule on a continual basis
  • Prepare required trends expeditiously to reflect scope changes, cost, and schedule impacts per Change Management protocol
  • Develop a robust QA/QC program to ensure project execution meets the requirements prescribed in the PEP/DBM
  • Plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work in one discipline/project/staff group
  • Coordinate engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups/disciplines with clients, suppliers, and contractors and between other divisional groups
  • Compile and complete project technical reports
  • Daily, project management includes all key elements of the project, including scope, safety, organization, planning, scheduling, estimating, materials, document controls, contracting, contractor management, logistics, and lessons learned.
  • Ensure the project managers develop daily/weekly cadence with key stakeholders on project activities while interfacing and managing internal and external teams to ensure projects progress as planned, on schedule, and within the prescribed budget, with quality workmanship.
  • Assist with the development of project estimates and work packages and provide updated projected cash flows.
  • Ensure appropriate tracking of time, materials, and subcontractors for comprehensive project invoicing, including appropriate detail to secure government funding and/or reimbursement.
  • Coordinate with site leadership for HSE, PSM, and quality personnel to enable engineering efforts for the sites, utilizing safety and quality resources appropriately.
  • Prepare project status reports, including updated cost projections and schedules for project review and input to management, finance, business development, and clients.
  • Identify and track changes in scope or differing conditions and secure appropriate approvals of change orders for project cost and schedule impact.
  • Develop the work processes and system with EPC, Operations Team, and Stakeholders to integrate project construction, commissioning and startup into operations readiness.  
Experience
  • Demonstrated 10-15 years of experience leading chemical and/or refinery projects as a Senior Project Manager, including estimating new first-of-a-kind projects and processing change orders.
    • Relevant experience in refinery work is preferred.
    • Modular equipment experience is preferred.
    • Experience with government projects helpful.
  • Detail-oriented, strong problem solving and analytical skills in evaluating situations.
  • Proven track record of delivering projects as planned on time, and budget.
  • History of deploying projects that have met all safety metrics
  • Ability to adapt to changing demands and priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to drive performance and accountability across the project teams
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including MS Project and scheduling software such as Primavera P6.
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferably Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Certification as a PMP and PE a plus
