About the Role:  


The Construction Manager’s primary responsibility is to take projects from the point of 100% Design to Final Completion. The Construction Manager will interface with BoxPower’s internal technical teams, external/subcontracted engineers, external/subcontracted contractors and installers, technical customers, and non-technical customers to oversee the successful completion of the on-site and construction phases of projects. The Construction Manager will also support pre-construction project activities with their knowledge and expertise regarding the project construction process (e.g. contributing to pricing/estimating, contributing to site design).  


This role reports to the Director of Operations. This role has no permanent direct reports; during construction, this role may have a site superintendent as a direct report. The salary range for this role is $120,000-$150,000 depending on experience and extended responsibilitiesThis role can be performed remotely or at BoxPower HQ in Grass Valley, CA with travel expectations to-site or Grass Valley HQ as . 


 
Responsibilities: 


 



  • Manage non-technical project activities, including: 



  • Budgeting, including accounting of all project costs and actions to keep project costs on-budget or under-budget. 



  • Scheduling, including forward-looking scheduling of all project activities and actions to keep project costs on-schedule or ahead-of-schedule. 



  • Tracking on-site work progress to stay on schedule and stay ahead of Change Orders from subcontractors.  



  • Facilitating on-site Change Order negotiations.  



  • Managing flow of information between on-site personnel, BoxPower HQ personnel, subcontractors, and the client, including managing formal RFIs (Requests for Information) during construction.  



  • Managing deliverables, including coordination, quality control (self performed or delegated) and submission of technical and non-technical deliverables required to be submitted to project stakeholders during the construction phase of the project. 



  • Construction inspection coordination. 



  • Managing the work of the Site Superintendent (SS), who will be your “eyes and ears” on various project sites – ensure that the SS is capturing all relevant information to keep BoxPower informed, mitigating risks and to keep projects moving forward successfully, on time and on budget. 



  • Manage the relationship and communication with the customer, including: 



  • Scheduling meetings with relevant stakeholders to solve project problems. 



  • Communicating and negotiating change orders with the customer. 



  • Communicating and justifying changes to budget, schedule, work plan, etc. to customer. 



  • Incorporating customer feedback into the project, when appropriate.  



  • Manage the relationships and communications with various subcontractors, including: 



  • Managing execution of subcontracted work. 



  • Working with other BoxPower personnel to create contracts for subcontractors. 



  • Resolving changes, issues, and work defects between subcontractor, BoxPower stakeholders, and other external stakeholders 



  • Manage payments to subcontractors.



  • Manage project-specific communications between internal BoxPower stakeholders, including Project Engineering, Product Engineering, Business Development, Field Services.  



  • Support pre-contract project development activities, including: 



  • Writing SOWs for site preparation, civil works, fence construction, concrete foundations, and mechanical assembly of solar arrays 



  • Accompany construction contractors on site visits. 



  • Supporting price estimating of construction subcontractor scope by using your construction expertise. 



  • Supporting the site design and engineering process by BoxPower Engineering, using your constructability and construction best-practices expertise. 



  • Obtain competitive pricing from qualified contractors for construction. 



  • Negotiate subcontracts, mitigating risk and passing through Terms & Conditions of parent contract, as well as coordination with any contract amendments.



  • Support process creation activities, including: 



  • Creating templates and trackers for project activities. 



  • Providing input to the operations department on what templates and tools would improve efficiency. 


 


Skills and Qualifications: 



  • Minimum 5 years of experience with managing construction projects  



  • Experience with remote construction projects, similar in size and scope to cell tower, small utility, remote commercial, or similar type sites.  



  • In-depth knowledge and experience with civil construction pricing and execution for remote sites.  



  • Experience with identifying, vetting, and working with subcontractors 



  • Experience with negotiating and executing construction subcontracts 



  • MS Word, MS Excel, MS Projects expertise 



  • RSMeans or other industry standard estimating software expertise 



  • Excellent written and verbal communication 



  • General contractors license (A preferred) a plus 



  • Foreman experience a plus 



  • Utility project experience a plus
