Our Opportunity






We are currently seeking a Battery Engineer/Scientist for our Materials & Corrosion Engineering Practice in Natick, MA. In this role you will work as part of a team to solve challenging, real world problems related to batteries, energy storage, and materials science for our clients. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers and will play a key role in conducting failure analyses, assisting with product development, and performing safety and abuse testing, with a primary emphasis on battery powered devices ranging in size from wearables to electric vehicles to grid scale storage.









You will be responsible for






  • Solving complex, real-world problems associated with the application of batteries
  • Designing, planning, and executing laboratory tests to support analysis of batteries and battery-powered devices
  • Operating battery testing and material characterization equipment, along with analyzing data and reporting results
  • Communicating and working effectively with other Exponent staff at all levels of the company
  • Presenting project findings within Exponent and to our external engineering, business, and legal clients








You will have the following skills and qualifications






  • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Hands-on experience designing and executing experiments in a laboratory setting, ideally in a field related to batteries
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Desire to contribute and collaborate within diverse project teams
  • Strong organization and project management skills
  • Experience with performing data analysis in Python (or similar programming language) is beneficial
  • Specialized knowledge of material characterization techniques such as photography, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and electrochemical analysis is beneficial
  • Experience with battery materials and commercial battery testing is beneficial
